Lago Taupo

Lake Taupo, situated in the heart of New Zealand’s North Island, is the country’s largest lake, known for its stunning landscapes, outdoor adventures, and geothermal attractions. Formed by a massive volcanic eruption thousands of years ago, this picturesque lake is surrounded by mountains, forests, and charming towns, making it a popular destination for nature enthusiasts.

One of the top highlights is Mine Bay Maori Rock Carvings, an impressive artwork etched into the cliffs along the lake’s edge. Accessible only by boat or kayak, these intricate carvings depict Maori ancestral figures and hold cultural significance, offering a unique blend of art, history, and scenic beauty.

The lake itself is a hub for water activities, with opportunities for fishing, boating, kayaking, and swimming. Lake Taupo is especially famous for its trout fishing, with anglers coming from around the world to catch rainbow and brown trout in its pristine waters.

For adventure seekers, skydiving over Lake Taupo offers breathtaking views of the lake, surrounding mountains, and even the peaks of Tongariro National Park in the distance. It’s a thrilling way to take in the dramatic landscape from above.

Onshore, visitors can explore the Taupo Hot Springs and nearby geothermal areas, which feature bubbling mud pools, steam vents, and naturally heated pools, perfect for relaxation after a day of adventure. The Spa Thermal Park is also nearby, where visitors can soak in a natural hot spring that flows into the Waikato River.

The Great Lake Trail is a scenic walking and biking trail that winds around parts of the lake, offering panoramic views and a chance to immerse yourself in the native bush and volcanic landscapes.
